Windows Server 2022 Datacenter is the edition that provides the widest range of possibilities and functionalities and the fewest license restrictions. It is dedicated to highly virtualized data centers and cloud environments. This edition will be suitable if your company expects advanced storage and virtualization. Allows you to run an unlimited number of VMs with one Hyper-V host per license. It also does not limit the number or types of containers used.
Windows Server 2022 Datacenter Core – 2 Core License Pack(perpetual license) has its own unique functionalities, such as support for the Host Guardian Service (HGS) for opening trusted software and managing keys required to run protected virtual machines. Storage Replica is also available, with no volume or data size limits. This allows you to replicate virtually all data to be restored in a disaster scenario.
Other features of this edition include guest or host activation, Software-Defined Network convention, availability of Storage Spaces Direct, and virtualization of any number of Windows Server instances within a physical Windows Server machine.

Windows Server 2022 Datacenter – like the Standard edition – is offered in Server Core and Desktop Experience editions. The first one is devoid of a graphical interface and eliminates all services and functionalities that are not necessary to support commonly performed roles on servers. The second option, on the other hand, comes with a desktop experience, making it more user-friendly, but also more resource-intensive.
A single Windows Server 2022 Datacenter license covers the physical core. You can acquire these licenses in packs of 2 and 16 licenses per core. The general minimum requirements are: licensing all physical cores, 8 CPU licenses, and 16 server licenses.
Windows Server 2022 Datacenter Core – 2 Core License Pack is a pack of 2 lifetime core licenses. For example, if you want to license a single-processor server with 2-16 cores, you can use 8 of these dual-core packages (or just one package for 16 cores). You can also supplement the licensing of servers that require an irregular number of core licenses (e.g. 20, 24, etc.) with the dual-core bundle. In addition, Windows Server 2022 Datacenter requires CALs.
